critical analysis of research

A course-linked artifact from the broader doctoral archive.

Critical analysis of research, as in critical theory, accuses researchers of the following things:

  1. Question of reality - does something really exist
  2. Question of Communication - does everyone agree that that means what the researcher says it means?
  3. Question of Values - never objective, always socially constructed
  4. Question of unstated assumptions - not just values, but what other assumptions were there?
  5. Question of societal consequences - research serves politically conservative or oppressive ends.
