The Insight
A lot of AI conversation starts with productivity: faster drafts, shorter meetings, more output in less time.
That matters, but it is not the most humane question.
The stronger question is this: who gets to participate more fully because the tool reduces a barrier that used to keep them out?
Why It Matters
When AI is framed only as efficiency software, it naturally centers the needs of people who are already fluent, fast, and well served by existing systems.
When AI is framed as access support, it opens a different set of possibilities for students, educators, and communicators whose ideas are real but harder to express inside conventional expectations.
What Changed In The Dissertation
That shift in perspective is what made the dissertation feel important to me. The key insight was not that the tool made writing faster. It was that the tool helped a person be heard more clearly.
That is a different kind of value, and it deserves more attention than simple time savings.
